Review and Giveaway: Kids Songs CD

Kids Songs is our family’s new favourite album, well mine and Littles anyway and Big Sister doesn’t mind listening to it either. If your children enjoy watching CBeebies then they will love this album which has songs from a variety of TV shows and presenters. It even has my favourite Justin Fletcher song “Hands Up”, if you ask my partner he says it’s my favourite song by any artist. I hope he isn’t right. I should probably find it worrying that I knew a good percentage of the songs on this album before my first time listening to it. As a comparison I’ve just looked at the latest Now That’s What I Call Music album (which is 98 by the way, I’m sure I have Now 1998 somewhere as well as Now 21) and I’ve only heard two of the songs on it before.

For me the highlights of the album (Kids Songs not Now 98) are Justin Fletcher’s songs and those from Rastamouse & Da Easy Crew which sound like they could be chart hits, maybe they once were chart hits, clearly I’m not that in touch with popular music. In contrast I find the Woolly and Tig songs mildly annoying and I have been known to skip them when no one is looking, I find the programme about a girl and her cuddly spider a bit annoying too, although I felt the same way about Topsy and Tim and that grew on me.

The album contains relaxing songs from Waybaloo, upbeat songs full of silly words from Boj, strange noises from the Clangers and a selection of songs from Everything’s Rosie and Tee and Mo. There are also the theme songs from Go Jetters, Timmy Time, Alphablocks, Big Barn Farm, 64 Zoo Lane, Big & Small and a selection of popular nursery rhymes sung by Chris and Pui.

Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy this album whether they are familiar with the associated TV shows or not. As for parents, even in the highly probable chance you have better music tastes than me, you should still find some amusement in listening to Jason Donovan singing lyrics such as “Stickity pancake big boohoo, Floppity flappity Paddly Poo”. You might also hear the voices of  Lauren Laverne and Lenny Henry.

There are 50 songs in total across 3 CDs. The first CD has most of the theme songs on so it is more recognisable, but all 3 discs have a good mix of songs to keep children dancing around the living room or happy in the car. Kids Songs it out now from Amazon and iTunes. Available on 3 CDs or digital download.
