After a long day of school runs, chores and juggling everything for the children, my bedroom is my sanctuary. It's the one space in the house that is truly just for me and my husband. Creating a peaceful and welcoming space starts with the right bed. A good night's sleep is so important and for me, that starts with a comfortable and beautiful divan frame.

Once you have your divan frame, the next step is dressing it up. The colours and textures of your bedding are key to complementing your frame. For warmer months, light cotton duvet covers can give the room an airy feel. When it gets colder, a cosy flannel or brushed cotton will make it feel extra snug.

Pillows are a great way to add comfort and style. I love piling them high so you can sink into them. You can mix different fills and sizes to create a really inviting look. Don't worry about everything matching perfectly. An eclectic mix of cushions can give the bed a relaxed yet luxurious feel.

Adding the Finishing Touches

After you have chosen your bedding, think about adding some extra layers for warmth and texture. A folded throw blanket at the foot of the bed adds a touch of indulgence. A soft knit or a cosy faux fur throw can instantly make the room feel more inviting. You can also add some accent cushions in different fabrics like velvet or linen to give it a layered look.

And don't forget about lighting. The right lighting can create a beautiful, relaxing glow. Ambient bedside lamps or a pendant light above the bed can create a warm and inviting feel when it's time to settle in for the night.

Creating a Feature Wall

The area behind your bed is the perfect spot for a feature wall. It can become a focal point that really pulls the room together. If your divan bed frame is a bold colour, you can create a simple feature wall with a neutral paint colour or some beautiful wallpaper. This allows the bed to be the star of the show.

For a rustic feel, you could use reclaimed wood panelling behind the bed. Or for a more modern look, you could use a simple painted wood panelling. Adding a stunning piece of art or a beautiful mirror to the wall will complete the look.
