There is the illusion that once you have children, your space instantly has to turn into a chaotic, kid-focused mess. Yet this is far from the truth. Just because you have little ones doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice your house, you just need to be smarter with it. In this article we take a look at how you can have a stylish space in your home even with children. You will soon be relaxing in your own haven once they have gone to bed and you'll be so glad you followed these tips! Keep on reading to find out more…

Focus on durable materials

The first thing you need to consider when having a space that works for both you and your kids, is the materials you work with. It tends to be better to focus on durable and high quality materials which you can wipe, wash and know will last the wear and tear of a busy household. You could explore designer radiators at radiator village, or head to an outlet to find your sofa or tables where you can get high quality items at a fraction of the price. Choose rugs made from wool or polyester blends as they are more hardwearing and opt for fabrics on your sofa that can withstand everyday wear and tear and is easy to wipe up those inevitable spills and fingerprints!

Have plenty of storage

Storage is a real mess saver in a family home and one thing you definitely want to invest in. Look for large, multi-sectional cubes such as the famous IKEA ones, which are great for stashing away all the kids' toys when they aren’t being played with, but just as easy to get them all out again in the morning when they wake up! Bookcases are a great way to store easy to access items such as books or smaller games, while you could put things they don’t use often on higher up shelves. Rotating toys can also make them more fun to play with too.

Make the spaces multi-functional

Another thing to consider when having a stylish home, is to make your spaces multi-functional. You can have set areas for your children, such as a play table where they can do their playdough, puzzles and games, but your table is left tidy and intact! You could create a little reading nook for them to enjoy their books, and think about having a dedicated play area with a rug that is theirs to sit on and know is their space.

These are just a few tips that can help you to have a stylish space even when you have children. Having little ones in your home doesn’t mean you can’t have the design you want, it just means you need to be a little smarter about the overall execution of it.
