Over 70 Essex Easter Egg Hunts, Trails and Activities for 2023

Easter Sunday 2023 is Sunday 9th April and most of the school Easter holidays start a week before on Saturday 1st April. Some of the Easter events are just taking place on Easter weekend, but many attractions will be open with Easter themed events and plenty going on to keep children busy across the whole of the holidays. This post contains (mostly) Essex based Easter Egg Hunts, trails, Easter themed hosted activities for children and other events taking place in the Easter holidays to help you keep your children entertained. I have added a map to the end of the post to help you find which events are near you.

Where to go in Essex this Easter


Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre, Church Road, Layer-de-la Haye, Colchester, Essex, CO2 0EU 
On Friday 7th to Sunday  Monday 10th April 10.30am to 4pm there is Easter Eggsplorer event at Abberton Reservoir. Take a walk around the reserve and complete the Easter Trail to collect your chocolate prize (dairy free option available). Tickets need to be prebooked in advance online and you get to try pond dipping too.  £7 per child.
There are lots of other events taking place at Abberton during the holidays that are worth checking out too including Animal Superheroes, Minibeast Safari and a Science Spectacular. 

Audley End House and Gardens, Audley End Road, Saffron Walden, CB11 4JF
The Easter Adventure Quest takes place from Saturday 1st to Sunday 16th April 10am to 5pm. Hunt for eggs by solving clues and claim a chocolate reward and adventurers certificate. You can also discover traditional Easter games like egg rolling and the egg and spoon race. Easter quest tickets cost an additional £2 to the entry price of Adults £18.10, Children £11.30 and under 5s entry is free, English Heritage members free entry (but still need to pay for the quest).
Easter weekend (7th to 10th) there are additional activities for families and the entry price is slightly higher at £20.90 and £12.70. Members also have to pay additional entry fee this weekend (and quest ticket). Prebooking not  required, but will speed up entry.

Audley End Miniature Railway, Audley End Road, Saffron Walden CB11 4JB
Open every day from Saturday 1st April until Sunday 16th April you can hop on the train at Audley End Miniature Railway. Take one of the trains into the woods to visit the Easter Bunny and all of his friends at their spring home in Essex. Throughout the train ride, you can test your I spy skills and look out for various things along the route. Then try to spot all of the animals, nests and eggs throughout the Easter Trail back in the Picnic Area. Once you complete the trail you’ve earned yourself a special sticker. Are you sharp-eyed enough to spot them all? There will be crafts available (aided by fairies) and the Mad Hatter telling stories.
Tickets £17, children under 92cm are half price and under 1s free. Booking essential.

Audley End Miniature Railway

Barleylands, Barleylands Road, Billericay CM11 2UD 
Visit the farm park for Spring Easter fun including crafts and lamb bottle feeding from 1st to 16th April. Prebooking is recommended and speeds up admission. When booking you need to choose a time slot (although there is some flexibility when you arrive if it’s before or after the time booked). 
Price for adults and children 2 years £17 a ticket, under 6 to 24 months £3.

Barnards Farm, West Horndon, Brentwood, Essex CM13 3FY
Take a ride on the Easter Express on Saturday 8th or Sunday 9th April. Take part in an Easter egg hunt while on an miniature railway before collecting a chocolate egg back at the terminus. Book here.

Bedfords Park Nature Discovery Centre, Broxhill Road, Havering-atte-Bower, Essex, RM4 1QH
On Wednesday 5th and 12th (10am til 12pm) there are Easter themed Nature Tots sessions (18 months to 5 years). On Monday 3rd there is a family forest fun session and on Thursday 6th there are bug hunting sessions (for 3 to 11 year olds). From £4 to £7, advanced booking required.
The Easter Egg hunt is on 7th April and costs £7 a child. You need to book on to a time slot.

Belfairs Nature Discovery Centre, Eastwood Road North, Leigh on Sea, SS9 4LR
Activities at Belfairs this Easter include a Spring Time Family Wander on 4th April,  Easter craft workshop 12th April and a Dino Egg Hunt on 14th April. Prices vary and need booking in advance.
Last year there was also a self-led Easter Egg-splorer Trail at £3 a child, but this isn't being advertised yet. 

The Bocking Arts Theatre, 15 Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9AE
On Wednesday 5th April 2023 Billy Banana's Bonkers Bingo Kids Show is a "kid's bingo party with a difference"  is at 1pm. Child tickets £10.50, Adults £5.50. 

Bourne Mill, Bourne Road, Colchester, CO2 8RT
Bourne Mill and grounds are open on 7th to 10th April 2023.and they will have the normal National Trust egg trail. 
Have fun following the National Trust trail around the mill and garden on 7th to 10th April from 11am to 3.30pm (last entry at 3pm). The Easter egg hunt is £3 and children will get a trail map, pencil and chocolate egg. There will also be stories, crafts, talks, books and refreshments.
Free entry (other than for the Easter Egg Trail) and you can't book in advance.      

Boydells Dairy Farm, Braintree Road, Braintree, CM7 4AQ
If the meaning of Easter for you is more about new life than chocolate then maybe take a visit to Boydells working farm as it reopens for the Easter season. This farm is all about the animals and over the Easter holidays you can expect to be able to hold chicks and rabbits, try milking cows and feeding baby sheep. Open 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm during the holidays (and then Friday to Sunday until the Summer holidays). Adults £7, Children £6. 

Brentwood Theatre, 15 Shenfield Road, Brentwood, Essex CM15 8AG 
Nicky Trix has an Easter show on 14th April at 11am and 1.30pm. Described as a “crackingly” funny Easter magic and ventriloquism show, which will be fun for the whole family. Tickets £14 per person.

Call of The Wild Zoo, Wickford Rd, South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, CM3 5QZ
Easter weekend there are special Easter activities happening at Call of The Wild alongside their normal offerings including Easter Egg hunt, crafts and entertainers. Friday 7th to Monday 10th April. Advanced tickets £13.99 adults, £11.99 children.

Cammas Hall Farm, Needham Green, Hatfield Broad Oak CM22 7JT
The Pick You Own Farm reopens on Saturday 1st April 2023 for their Alice in Wonderland Easter trail. The curious half-mile route will take you through open farm and woodland.  Find the clues and solve the puzzle. Show your game card at the end to get a tasty treat. Tickets cost £5.50 (plus 30p booking free) per child and must be pre-booked.  One free adult is permitted per paying child, additional adults are charge at £2.50 (plus 20p booking fee) per person.  There is no charge babies under 12 months. Running until Sunday 16th April.
They also have animal encounter sessions you can book on 4th and 22nd April and craft sessions on 5th and 11th April. 

Capel Manor Gardens, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, Middlesex EN1 4RQ
Easter activities are planned from Thursday 6th to Monday 10th April. The Easter trail runs 10am to 5pm (last entry 3.30pm). Look for the large eggs across the garden and claim a treat at the end. Meet the Easter Bunny, enjoy Easter crafts (colouring) and plant a seed to take home. There is also a mini zoo, the holly maze, picturesque themed gardens and the fairy forest to explore. Face painting and bouncy castle at an additional cost.

The Civic Hall, Blackshots Lane, Grays, RM16 2JU
At the Civic Hall there is an Easter Afternoon Tea on Friday 7th April, and Easter Market on Sunday 9th April (free entry 10am to 4pm) and Party Monsters BIG Easter Party for all the family on Wednesday 5th April. There are 2 sessions starting at : 10.30am and 2pm. Includes magic show, puppet show, bubbles, balloons, snow, sensory play, bouncy castles and more. Tickets £5 for infants, £13 for 2 to 16 year olds and £4 for adults plus booking fees.

Chelmsford For You, Chelmsford High Street, 
On Monday 3rd to Sunday 16th April there is a free Easter egg hunt in Chelmsford City Centre. Spot and count the eggs in shop windows then submit the total number for a chance to enter a draw to win prizes. All the shops taking part and the entry form will be available on the Chelmsford for you website from 3rd April.

Chelmsford Museum, Oaklands Park, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, CM2 9AQ
This year the museum is having a special event of a Victorian Easter at Oaklands House. Activities include making paper flowers on the 4th, 5th, 12th and 13th April. There is also an Easter Egg Hunt trail, a new Easter themed outdoors park trail and a special Easter History Hacker issue (50p). Museum is free entry and will be open 10am until 4pm.

Chelmsford Theatre, Fairfield Road, Chelmsford. CM1 1JG
Over the Easter holidays there are several activities of interest including: Ministry of Science Live (4th April), Dinosaur Adventure Live (5th April), Goldilocks and the Three Bears (8th April, same tour as Harlow Playhouse), Milkshake Live (11th April) and a live screening from the Royal Opera House of Cinderella (A ballet, 12th April).

Colchester Castle, Castle Park, High Street, Colchester, CO1 1TJ
There is a Jolly Jester trail running from 1st to 16th April. Solve the riddles and get a prize at the end. Suitable for 4 years plus. Trail costs £5 in addition to entry cost, sign up at the shop. From 3rd to 16th April there is an Easter craft and games room (included in ticket price). There are also various (historic) costume character and family tours running most days in the holiday.  Admission costs £11.95 for adults, £6.95 for children.
The Knightzzz At The Museum sleepover event is running from 1st to 2nd April, from £35 per person depending on which area you choose to sleep. Call 01206 282939 to book.

Colchester ZooMaldon Road, Colchester CO3 0SL
There is a Easter Egg-stravaganza all about reptiles and birds running from 1st to 16th April 2023. As well as all the normal activities and things to do at the zoo you can meet baby dinosaurs. This event starts with a special Dino Discovery day on 1st April with extra dinosaur themed fun. Tickets cost £21.99 (adults) and £17.99 (children) on the gate with a discount if bought online in advance.

Copped Hall, Crown Hill (Upshire Road), Epping. Sat Nav postcode CM16 5HR
Join the Easter egg hunt and enjoy the spring flowers on Easter Sunday 9th April. Gates open at 2pm and close at 4pm, car park closes at 5pm. Tickets £6 in advance, £7 on the day (accompanied children under 16 are free), egg hunt 50p per child . Children can see the Easter bunny and join in an Easter egg hunt while adults can enjoy the Spring flowers. Follow the clues and the trail of plastic eggs to win a little chocolate egg. There will be tea/coffee and home-made cakes available until 4.30pm and the Copped Hall shop and extensive second hand Bookshop will be open until the same time. Prebooking essential. 

East Anglian Railway Museum, Chappel Station, Colchester, Essex, CO6 2DS
On Friday 7th to Monday 10th April the popular Day Out With Thomas event will be running at the railway museum. You can take unlimited train rides behind Thomas, Percy and Daisy. Meet Toby, Henrietta, Rusty, Dusty and Sir Topham Hatt. Also enjoy the miniature railway and train themed playground. Tickets cost £13.20 for children (2 to 15) and £18.70 for adults for half a day. Epping Forest District Museum, 39-41 Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, EN9 1EL
On Saturday 8th April 2023 there is an Easter Egg hunt around the museum, between 10am and 3.30pm, £2.50 per child, takes about half an hour (it's a small museum). No need to book.
There are also Easter themed drop in craft events for children during the holidays: 4th April is Make an Easter Bunny Mask and 11th April is make an Easter Flower Bower. Activities available between 10.30 am and 3.30pm, last about half an hour and cost £2.50 per child. 

Epping Ongar Railway, Ongar and North Weald
Catch the Easter Express on Friday 7th to Monday 10th April with Epping Ongar Railway. The Easter egg hunt takes place around across both stations and the train ride making it probably the longest Easter Egg hunt in Essex, children need to keep an eye out the window while riding the trains. Get your clue sheet on arrival and spot all the eggs before heading to the the shop to get a special Easter treat. There will be appearances by Bertie The Easter Bunny and face painting (additional cost).
Tickets: Adult £18; Child £10; Family (up to 2 adults and 3 children) £47. Under 3s free.

Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Park,  South Green Road, Fingringhoe, Colchester , Essex, CO5 7DN
On Saturday 8th April there is an Easter scavenger hunt. Book on to either the 10.30am or 1.30pm session via the website. There is a chocolate treat and Easter themed crafts in the woods £7 per child. Other bookable activities over the holidays include Forest Fun. 

Flatford, East Bergholt, Suffolk, CO7 6UL
The National Trust Easter Egg hunt is running between 1st and 16th April between 10.30am and 3pm. The trail is across countryside which gets muddy at times (so bring wellies). National Trust Easter trails cost £3 per child and include a trail map, pencil, bunny ears and a chocolate egg at the end (vegan and free from egg option available). Admission of £5 per car also applicable (unless National Trust members). 

Forty Hall, Forty Hill, Enfield, EN2 9HA
From the 6th to 9th April children can take part in an Easter Egg Hunt at Forty Hall. Running between 11am and 3.30pm, you can book via the website: £3.50 per child. Once they complete the trail they will get a certificate and a "sweet surprise".

Foxholes Farm, London Road, Hertford, Hertfordshire, SG13 7NT
The Lambing Live event runs from 31st March to 18th April open from 10am, last entry at 2pm. Lots of  ewes are expected to give birth over the period so there is a good chance you will see one giving birth or at least a newborn. You can also get up close and feed some of the older residents in the farm park (but no bottle feeding lambs). £6.95 per person, under 2’s are free. Book online for guaranteed entry.

Frinton Easter Fayre, Macgrigor Hall, 85 Forth Avenue, Frinton On Sea, CO13 9EB
An Easter Fayre is on 10am to 2pm on 8th April. Indoor and Outdoor stalls. 

Get To Know Animals, Forest Lodge Commercial Complex, Epping Rd, Epping, Essex, CM16 5HW
This Easter the new indoor mini zoo is offering a hands on animal experience. There wont be lambs or chicks, but you might get to hold a bunny and maybe a snake or bearded dragon. In the 1 hour experience (which comes with zoo entry) you get to hold up to 10 animals and you will learn lots about them too. It's £25 per person (normal adult entry is £15). The Gibberd Garden, Marsh Lane, Harlow, Essex, CM17 0NA
There is an Easter event on Easter Sunday (9th April) from 2pm to 6pm. Includes egg trail, crafts and activities for children as well as the gardens to explore. Easter trail £2 plus entry fee (£5 adults, £1 children, under 5s free).

Go Bananas, 9-10 Mason Road, Cowdray Centre, Colchester, CO1 1BX
The soft play has an Easter Party for 1 to 12 year olds on Friday 7th April from 4.30 to 6.30pm. Includes professional entertainer "Silly Tilly", Easter egg hunt, dancing, soft play, games and crafts. £12 per child, £3 per adult. Book online

Grumpy's Diner, 759 Southchurch Road, Southend, SS1 2PP
Magical Princess Parties are hosting a Fairies event at Grumpy's diner on Tuesday 4th April 11am to 1pm. There will be crafts, singing, dancing, meet & greet and lunch for children. Tickets £18 per child, adult comes free. Book tickets by calling 01702 616831 or in person at the diner.

Hadleigh Castle Rotary, The White House Gardens, Kiln Road, Benfleet, SS7 1TF
Hadleigh Castle Rotary have arranged a Charity Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday 8th April in the gardens of Carers Choice offices. Tickets £5 per child. Book a time between 10am and 4pm here. There will be an Easter Bonnet decorating station, Hook The Duck, Bunny Racing, Colouring Competition, Face Painting, Bean Bag Game, refreshments and Cream Teas available to purchase.

Hainault Forest, Hainault Forest Country Park, Romford Road, Chigwell, IG7 4QN
Stage 1 of the regeneration of Hainault Forest will be open from Saturday 1st April so there will be various activities between 10am and 4pm. Entry is free, car parking charges apply, some activities need to be prebooked here. 

Hanningfield Reservoir Visitor Centre, Hawkswood Road, Downham, Billericay CM11 1WT
There are plenty of bookable activities taking place over the Easter holidays at Hanningfield including forest school, pond dipping and bug hunting. Prices vary, booking essential
The main Easter event is on Saturday 8th April. Follow the map to find the activity stations; make an Easter basket and hunt for hidden eggs, head out into the reserve in the springtime sun for pond dipping, bug hunting & more. Book a timeslot to take part, £12 per child. 

Hanningfield Waterside Park, Giffords Lane, South Hanningfield, Chelmsford, Essex CM3 8HX
From April 1st to 16th there will be an Easter Egg Hunt at the Waterside Park. Pick up at a sheet from the cafe and hunt around the site for eggs with letters on them to receive a prize. Find a golden egg and bring it to the cafe for an extra surprise. This is a great place to spot birds and there is a good play area too (and plenty of parking). The free event will be running between 9am and 3.30pm.

Harlow Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Harlow CM20 1LS
KD Theatre Productions present at Easter pantomime of Goldilocks and The Three Bears from 31st March to 4th April. Performance times vary by day, but include shows at 11am, 2.30pm and 7pm. It is billed as being a family friendly production packed with jokes and dazzling dance routines. 

Harlow The Water Gardens, Essex, CM20 1AN
On 3rd-11th April there is a giant Chocolate Bar Hunt around The Water Gardens Shopping Centre. Fill in the online form to say where you spotted the giant bars and you could win one of these prizes: an ASDA voucher for £100, TK Maxx Voucher for £50 or £25 to spend at Master Barista.

The Harvey Centre, Harlow, CM20 1AP
Between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 15th April there will be dinosaurs roaming The Harvey Centre. It's free to chat to the rangers and snap a selfie with these giant roaming dinosaurs and baby dinosaurs.

Hasty's Adventure Farm, West Road, Clacton, CO15 1AG
The Easter Trail is running 1st to 16th April. Find the wooden eggs around the farm, write down where you found them and get a chocolate egg or sticker on your way out. Included in the cost of farm entry. £7.95 toddlers, £11.95 age 4 upwards. Save £2 if you buy online at least an hour before visiting.

Hedingham Castle, Bayley Street, Castle Hedingham, Essex, CO9 3DJ
Sunday 9th and Monday 10th April (10am to 4pm) Hedingham Castle have a Medieval Spring Joust. Step back in time to enjoy displays of  Falconry, musicians, archery and more. Gates open at 10 am and the Jousts will take place at roughly midday and 3pm. Adults £21.50, Juniors (5 to 16) £16, under 5s are free and great value family tickets available.

Herts & Essex Community Farm, Fold Croft, Harlow, Essex CM20 1SE
There is an Easter Fun Day with an Egg Hunt on Saturday 8th April 12 til 2pm. There will also be games, food and refreshments on offer. £2.50 per child with prizes for all, adults free. 

Hobbycraft (Various locations including Basildon, Chelmsford, Colchester, Harlow and Loughton-Epping Forest)
Most Hobbycraft stores run craft sessions in store and in the run up to Easter there are various Easter themed crafts sessions you can book including: making an Easter sign, Easter bonnets, clay decorations and general Easter crafts. Sessions cost between £5 and £25. Sessions are bookable via ClassBento

Hollytrees Museum, Castle Park, Colchester, CO1 1UG
Easter Arts and Crafts sessions running during the holidays suitable for ages 4 and up. They are on 4th, 7th, 11th and 14th April. It's a drop in event between 10.30 – 12.30pm or 2 – 4pm. Costs from £5 and you can pay on arrival. The museum is open 10am to 5pm and admission is free for this family friendly museum in Castle Park with plenty of hands-on exhibits. 

Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, Sawyers Hall Farm, Sawyers Hall Lane, CM15 9BZ
Special Easter Events taking places Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th April 10am to 4pm. Meet the Easter Bunny, follow the Easter trail, go on inflatables, enjoy free crafts and more. Tickets go on sale 1st March. Last year's prices: Adults £7.50, Children £6.50, Under 2’s free. 

RHS Garden Hyde Hall, Creephedge Lane, Rettendon Common, Chelmsford CM3 8ET
The Easter trail is running from Saturday 1st to 16th April when children can hunt for giant colourful eggs hidden around the garden. Children will receive a PLAYin CHOC from the garden centre when they have completed the trail (these chocolates are organic, vegan and allergen free). On Tuesday 4th and 11th April there are storytelling sessions throughout the day. On Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th there are children’s Easter craft sessions throughout the day (additional £2 a child).  Entry free to RHS members and under 5s, £13.85 adults, £6.95 children.

Langdon Nature Discovery Park, Lower Dunton Road, Basildon, SS16 6EJ 
On Monday 3rd April there is a Bushcraft session (8+) in the morning and pond dipping in the afternoon. On Friday 7th and 14th there are story time sessions (Five Little Bunnies and The Very Hungry Caterpillar) which will be followed by themed activities. £7 per child, prebooking required.

Lambourne End, Centre for Outdoor Learning, Manor Road, Lambourne End, Essex, RM4 1NB
From Monday 3rd to Friday 14th April  (week days, excluding Bank Holidays) there is an Adventure Academy for children over 8. It is £50 a day with discounts if you book for a full week.  On Tuesdays 4th and 11th April and Thursdays 6th and 13th there are full and half day activities for all ages. Under 5s need to be accompanied by an adult. £25 for 1/2 day, £50 for full day. Prebooking essential (via Eventbrite).

Lathcoats Farm, Beehive Lane, Great Baddow, Chelmsford CM2 8LX
The Easter event is running 9 til 5pm 25th March to 15th April (closed Sundays). Use the puzzles along the trail to figure out the Easter Bunny's secret message. Complete your activity sheet and then return to the farm shop to collect a prize. Access to the Easter Trail, activity sheet, pencil and prize £4.50 per participant. No more than 2 non-paying participants with 1 paying participant. Collect activity sheet from farm shop, no booking required. 

Lavenham Guildhall, Market Place, Lavenham, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 9QZ
Another National Trust property that hasn't yet announced their 2023 trail. Last year the trail took place around the village from 10.30am - 2pm. The price of the trail is expected to be £3 per child and includes a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg at the end. Collect the trail pack from Visitor Reception. 

Layer Marney Tower, Layer Marney, Nr. Colchester, C05 9US
Join the Easter fun at Layer Marney Tower on Sunday 9th and Monday 10th April from 11am to 5pm. There is an Easter Egg hunts for the toddlers, Egg and Spoon Races and you can book on a tractor trailer ride to see the lambs (and feed them). You can also climb the Tower, go round the gardens, visit the Tea Room and enjoy the play area. If you want to see the lambs make sure you book a ticket which includes the tractor ride. Tickets: Adults £10, Children £5. Book online.
Layer Marney is also open on Sunday 2nd to Thursday 6th and Tuesday 11th for tractor rides to feed the lambs and all activities other than the Egg hunt and Egg and Spoon Race.

Layer Woods, New Cut, Layer de la Haye, Colchester CO2 0EH
The Layer Egg Hunt is taking place between 10am and 2pm on Friday 7th April. The event is raising money for Layer primary school and starts at the village hall before going round the woods. The Easter Eggstravaganza will run from 1st to 16th April. There is an Easter egg trail where you can meet Mother Goose and attend Bunny Academy. Open 10am to 5pm everyday. Tickets £13.99 per person, 6 months to 2 years £4.99.

Little Easton Manor, Park Road, Dunmow CM6 2JN
In Friday 7th and Saturday 8th April 10am to 4pm there is a Charlie & The Chocolate Manor event. Includes Wonka inspired lawn games, hunt the golden tickets for a chocolate surprise, bouncy castles, 360 degree photo experience and live music. Entry £5 per person.

Luxborough Lakes, Chigwell, IG7 5DF
Ripple Effect Microadventure have a 2 day introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding camp on 4th and 5th April. The 1 hour session each day will teach the basics of SUP. Minimum age 8 and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. all equipment provided. They will wear a buoyancy vest, but they should be able to swim. 

Markshall Estate, Marks Hall Road, Coggeshall, CO6 1TG
The Easter Egg Trail will be running from 24th March to 16th April 10am to 4.30pm. The full trail has 20 wooden Easter eggs in the Arboretum, but there is a mini version (with less walking) with only 8 eggs to find.  Expect a treat on completion. Included in normal admission price (£9 adults, £4.75 children). 

Marsh Farm, South Woodham Ferrers CM3 5WP
The 2023 Easter Eggstravaganza from 1st to 16th April. All the normal Marsh Farm activities are available plus you can meet the Easter characters, go on the Easter Egg hunt, party with Mother Goose and see baby chicks. As it's Marsh Farm there are bound to be plenty of photo opportunities too. 
Normal activities include: train ride, fairground rides, playgrounds, animals, soft play and crazy golf.
Tickets cost £16.99 for everyone over 2, £4.99 for 6 months to 2 years and free for under 6 months, discount for advanced online purchase.

A National Trust Easter trail with nature inspired activities in the beautiful gardens. Running on 5th to 10th April between 12pm and 4pm (last entry 3.30pm). £3 per child including map, pencil and treat, pay at the Visitors Centre. Mountfitchet Castle, Stanstead CM24 8SP
The Easter event is running from 1st to 6th April. Look for the bunnies on their trail. Opening hours 10am to 5pm with last admission at 4pm. General entry prices £16 for adults, £12.50 for children 3 to 13, no need to book.

Natural Foundations, Blackmore Road, Highwood, Chelmsford, CM1 2QR           
Take part in a Easter Egg Hunt and other activities at this Forest School style site. Sessions running 10am to 12 from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th April, £9 per child. Prebooking required.

The Naze Centre, Old Hall Lane, Walton-on-the-Naze, CO14 8LE
On Friday 7th to Monday 10th April there is an Easter trail. You need to prebook online (£7 per child) but can take part in the trail and crafts anytime between 10am and 3pm. You pick up the trail map from the visitors centre and return afterwards for the chocolatey treat. 
There are also Fossil Hunting and Coastal explorer sessions available to book in the Easter holidays. 

Off Road Kids, Carlton Farm Beehive Lane, Great Baddow, Chelmsford, CM2 8RL
Off Road Kids offer mini safari's in little car's children can drive themselves. During the Easter holidays they have 15 minute drives around a field where the children have to collect 5 eggs from baskets in the field. At the end these are exchanged for a chocolate egg or sweets. Tickets selling quickly. From 4th to 9th April. £12.50 per child, suitable for age 3 upwards.

Old Macdonald's Farm, Weald Road, Brentwood, Essex, CM14 5AY
The Easter Festival is Saturday 1st to Sunday 16th April. Activities include: Easter Egg Hunt, Magic Shows, Baby Animal Encounters, Circus Workshops, crafts (Bank Holiday weekend only) and Puppet shows. Over the Easter holidays Pets' Corner are hosting a number of activities including an Easter Egg Trail (3rd to 14th April, 12 to 3.30pm, £1 per person, no need to prebook), Meet a Lamb (3rd, 8th, 10th and 15th tickets sold on the day from 11am at the shop, first come first served), Birds of Prey Handling (4th, 6th and 14th), Easter crafts and Easter Bonnet Parade (both on Wednesday 12th). On 1st, 2nd, 5th, 8th, 10th and 12th to 16th April  there is a Teddy Bear hunt trail for £2.50 running between 11am and 5pm.

Rainham Hall, The Broadway, Rainham, Havering, London, RM13 9YN
Easter nature trail running Thursday 6th to Monday 10th April 11-4pm (last entry 3.30pm). The trail has nature inspired activities in the Community Gardens of Rainham Hall. £3 per child including map, pencil and treat. Booking not required (but book separately if you want to visit the Hall as well). There is no on site car park, but there is parking nearby in Tesco (3 hours free for customers) and a pay and display car park.

Production of The Little Mermaid On Ice. With songs, colourful costumes and pyrotechnics they bill this as a production for all ages. Wednesday 5th April to Sunday 9th. Day and evening performances. Prices start at £14 adults, £11.20 for children (plus booking fee).

Roding Valley Meadows Nature Reserve, Grange Farm Centre, Grange Farm Lane, Chigwell, Essex, IG7 6DP
On Monday 3rd April there is an Easter themed Nature Tots session (18 months to 5 years) 1pm to 3pm, £7 per child. Advanced booking essential. On Tuesday 4th there are sessions for 3 to 11 year olds (pond dipping in the morning, a mini beast safari in the afternoon). On the mornings of Wednesday 5th and Friday 14th there are family forest school sessions. Prebooking required, £7 per child (find via the Events page).
On Saturday 8th April there are self-led Easter Egg hunts throughout the day. Book on to one of the timed sessions. £7 per child (note this is on the Events page under Chigwell Meadows, but most of the events here are under Roding).

Romford Shopping Hall, 43 Market Place, Romford, Essex RM1 3AB
There are Easter bonnet decorating workshops on Saturday 25th March and an Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday 6th April between 10 and 3pm. Follow the map to find the hidden eggs and bunnies. After completing you get a medal. Events cost £3 per child plus booking fee, get your tickets here.

The Royal British Legion, Church Hill, Loughton, IG10 1LH
The Fairytale Face Painter Easter Kids Disco this year is at The Royal British Legion on Saturday 25th March at 2.30pm. This UV Disco will have a DJ, Alice and the Cheshire Cat, foam, bubbles, the Easter bunny and of course face painting from Anna, The Fairytale Face Painter (for age 3 and up).  Tickets £20 for children (1 to 12 years) and free for adults. Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey, EN9 1JY
On Thursday 11th April there is a workshop for children aged 4 to 11 to weave their own willow bird feeder, join in an Easter Egg Hunt and have a ride on the miniature railway. Book on to either the 10.30am or 1pm workshops. The rest of the site will be closed. Tickets £8 per child and up to 2 adults. Book here.

Rye-Assic Adventure Park at Rye House, Rye Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, EN11 0EH
The Dinosaur Themed Adventure Park in Hoddesdon will be transformed for their Easter events from the Friday 7th to Sunday 9th April to include: Easter egg hunt, messy play, costume competition, soft play and a free return visit. The 2.5 hour sessions are bookable and cost £12.50 per child (1 to 9 years), adults and under 1s are free. Sessions start at 10am and 1.30pm.

Scotts of Southend, Sutton Road, Rochford, SS4 1LQ
The garden centre has a free activity to Meet Easter Farm Babies on Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th April between 9am and 5pm. They say there will be: lambs, chicks, ducklings, goats, ponies, rabbits and more. No booking, just turn up.

Shotgate Easter Fayre, Shotgate Park, SS11 8XD
On Sunday 9th April 10am until 3pm Shotgate Parish Council has their Easter Fayre which includes a Children’s entertainer, children’s rides, Easter egg hunt (from 11am), activities, market stalls and more. Easter bonnet parade at 11am. Admission free.

Southchurch Hall, Southchurch Hall Close, Park Lane, Southend-on-Sea SS1 2TE
There is a Mouse Trail running over the holidays at Southchurch Hall. Read the story, find the mice and solve the mystery of Mousechurch Hall. The trail costs £2.50 and is running between 11am and 4pm on 1st, 2nd, 5th, 8th, 10th and 12th to 16th April.

Stubbers Adventure Centre, Ockendon Road, Upminster, Essex, RM14 2TY
On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th take part is special activities at the Adventure Centre including and Easter Egg Hunt, Silent Disco and a Firelighting Taster session. Tickets cost £5 for adults, £4 for children (under 5s free) and can be bought online. You can book additional activities on the day including tractor rides (£1pp) Pedalo (£8 per boat) and high ropes (£8.50pp).

Thames Chase Forest Centre, Broadfields Farm, Pike Lane, Upminster, RM14 3NS
There are several events taking place at Thames Chase over Easter (as well as the new Zog trail). These include Storytelling on Tuesday 4th April (£3.50), Easter themed crafts on Wednesday 5th (£3), cake decorating (age 5 to 12) on April 11th (£15) and pottery painting on 13th April (£12 suitable for age 4 to 8). There is also a Spring Fair on Sunday 16th from 10am to 3pm.

Thorndon Nature Discovery Centre, Thorndon Park North, The Avenue, Brentwood, CM13 3RZ
On Wednesday 5th April there are Eggcellent Woodland craft sessions running from 10am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Session will take place all outside and the normal parking charges apply in addition to £7 per child session fee, prebooking recommended (it will probably sell out). There are also other bookable activities over the Easter holidays.

Thurrock Thameside Nature Park, Mucking Wharf Road, Mucking, Stanford Le Hope SS17 0RN
There is a jam packed calendar of events over the Easter holidays, but the Easter themed ones are Thursday 6th 10 to 2pm trail and crafts (£5 per child) and Friday 7th 2 to 4pm an outdoor Easter craft workshop, Tuesday 11th 2 to 4pm Easter campfire (both £7 per child). TransportFest, The Museum of Power, Hatfield Road, Langford, Maldon, CM9 6QA 
On Easter Sunday (9th April) between 10am to 3pm there is a Transport Festival at the Museum of Power. It sounds like a fun day out for transport lovers with classic cars, buses and military vehicles to see as well as children's ride and activities. Adults £8, Children £5, under 5s free. The Miniature steam train and model village will be open too (additional charge).

Wat Tyler County Park, Pitsea Hall Lane Pitsea, Basildon Essex, SS16 4UH 
Join the self-led Easter Trail at the County Park on Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th April and Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th April 10.30am to 2.00pm. Solve the clues before returning to collect your egg. Trail takes about 30 - 45 mins, £7 per child. To book a time slot and day call on 01268 205267 between 10am-3pm daily. 

Wild Forest Obstacle Activity Centre, Parsonage Farm, Ongar Road, Kelvedon Hatch, Brentwood, Essex, CM15 0LA
This year's Easter Obstable Run is on 8th, 9th and 10th April. A 2k run (walk or jog) with obstacles and lots of mud. Billed as 2hours of Easter Family Fun and includes Hot Chocolate & Fire pit (bring your own marshmallows). Easter treat for each child. £15.50 per person plus booking fee. Booking details on website.
There are also 2 hour Just Get Over It Sessions running on 5th, 11th and 13th April. Different sessions run for 6 to 10 year olds and children 11+, but both get 90 minutes on the obstacles and either slime fun (for the younger ones) or angel knife throwing (for the older ones). The Easter Eggstravaganza is running 30th March to 14th April which will include an Easter Egg Hunt, Easter Grotto, crafts, baby animals including bunnies and chicks, new shows, funfair rides, soft play and role play areas.  Prebooking recommended for non-members. Ticket prices £25.75 (plus 50p booking fee) per people aged 2 and over, but early bird discount and online booking discount available.

On Wednesday 12th April the Glass Slipper Entertainment present Floral Fiesta Princess Party with Princess meet and greets, an interactive show and a sweet treat to take home. Sessions at 9.30am, 12pm and 2pm. Tickets cost £30 (plus booking fee) for 1 child and 1 adult.

Woodstock Farm, Cold Norton, Essex, CM3 6NP
Tickets are on sale now for the Easter event running from 3rd to 10th April 2023. The "Lambing Live!" event will include bouncy castle, animal petting, easter bunny, pony rides and crafting. 2 session times starting at 10am or 1.30pm. A ticket for 1 child (between 4 and 12) and 1 adult is £19.95, children 1 to 3 and an adult are £7.95 and additional adults are £7.95 each (plus £1.15 book fee). Book here. They also have stay & play sessions running from 11th April to 21st April with pony rides, animal feeding, crafts and more.

Wyvernwood, St. Osyth Road, Alresford, Colchester CO7 8AP
Join the Easter adventure at this magical setting and help find the 8 missing dragon eggs. Wyvernwood is an outdoor immersive storytelling world with lots of play areas. Admission is £22 on the gate, but you can save money by buying tickets in advance.
