Key Fitness Items To Look Out For In The Sales And Why

Quality Running Gear

Black Friday sales are a great time to look for end of season clothes designed for running or working out in hot weather. Think light materials that are moisture wicking and fast drying. You can often also find discounts on high performance winter kit like thermal leggings, windproof jackets and merino base layers. Some of my favourite technical adidas items I’ve picked up in the sales are a waterproof jacket with a hood that actually stays up when running in the wind and a long sleeve running top with CLIMAWARM. The top is thin, breathable, but also insulating. Plus it has a hi-vis reflective pattern, high neck and awesome thumb holes to keep my hands warmer. The special offers mean you can treat yourself to great kit that you might normally find hard to justify.

Christmas Gifts

The idea of giving children: ‘something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read’ is growing in popularity. This makes the Black Friday sales a great time to get ahead with your Christmas shopping and buy kids clothing. Whether you want to get the next size in their sports kit or comfortable fashion clothing, adidas has a great range on offer (my children love the Minecraft collaboration).

High End Trainers and Running Shoes

Autumn often means brands bring out trainers in new colour ways, but there isn’t always a lot of difference between the models otherwise. Buying last season’s design won’t affect your performance, but it could mean you grab a bargain. Whether it’s a spare pair to wear on rainy days or a higher spec design than you can usually afford it’s worth checking out the offers.

Smart Watches and Fitness Trackers

If you want the latest version of a top brand smart watch then you probably won’t get much of a discount over Black Friday weekend, but if you are happy for a previous generation fitness tracker there are normally some brilliant offers. Make sure you aren’t caught out by some of the savings claims though as some shops increase the price back to the original RRP in October to make the November offer look more substantial. Check out what the price has been over the previous 6 months to discover if it’s really a bargain before you get swayed by marketing (there are free price tracking tools that can do this).

Home Gym Essentials

If you have ever been a regular gym goer you will be in no doubt how many people start a new keep fit routine in January. Knowing that the “New Year, New You” season is coming makes the Black Friday Sales the ideal time for companies to make space in their warehouse ready for all their new stock. If you have been considering a home fitness machine or new bit of kit for a while, it is the perfect time to look for bargains.

Sports Nutrition and Protein Supplements

Products like whey protein, creatine and energy gels generally have a long-shelf-life so you can bulk purchase now to see you through the winter. You can find some great promotional discounts from major supplement brands in November so shop around and see what is on offer.

Fitness App Subscriptions and Online Coaching Plans

Lots of digital platforms (both fitness related and not) offer brilliant discounts on annual memberships or extended free trials around Black Friday and Cyber Weekend. If you have been paying monthly for a run tracker or work out app, it’s a great time to check out the savings they are offering if you commit to a year's membership.

Is It Really Worth Shopping In The Black Friday Sales?

There are definitely some great offers to be found, but any purchase is only a bargain if you actually use it. Try not to be dragged into the hype and buy things you don’t need and will probably only use for 5 minutes. Black Friday is a great time to upgrade and replace your existing kit or treat yourself to something you have been looking at for a while. Some new trainers or a fun bit of gear might be just the thing you need to keep you moving your body through the cold, wet days ahead which makes any purchase absolutely worth the investment.
