Take a glance at social media in August, and the pressure is on. Everyone has been somewhere incredible, experienced something amazing, and got the stories to tell about it. According to the Standard, UK families are booking increasingly far-flung and adventurous trips. Yet, there’s a big challenge: how do you plan something that will keep the whole family happy?

The good news is there are plenty of options. Here are some holiday options that everyone will love: from winter escapes to UK staycations, and something exotic. Whichever you choose your are bound to have something amazing to share on your socials this time so getting planning for next summer now.

UK Staycations

A common mistake these days is thinking that you have to go abroad for a brilliant holiday. Take a look at images of Cornwall’s beaches, or the remote Scottish islands, and you’d be forgiven for guessing they were in Spain or Norway. The trick is doing some research to find something perfect for you.

The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales have challenging hikes that could bring active families together. Cornwall or Wales are beautiful choices for beaches (bonus points for coinciding your trip with a heatwave, otherwise just pack sensible clothes and you'll be fine). And cities like Edinburgh, London or even Liverpool are full of cultural attractions; perfect for your little historians.

Winter Sun Escapes

If you want to head for winter sun and are happy to head further afield, the Southern Hemisphere is the obvious choice, as countries like New Zealand and Australia have their summer in December. But there are plenty of accessible destinations for UK families. Forget taking a long-haul flight with little ones in tow. Instead, consider southern European destinations, like the Canary Islands and Madeira.

It is amazing what getting a little closer to the equator can do; these destinations hover at around 20 Degrees Celsius in the British winter months. These temperatures are mild enough for children, yet warm enough for adults to get a lovely tan. Win-win.

Adventure Holidays That Bring Families Together

Who doesn’t love a little bit of adventure? Think about the activities your family enjoys. That might be canoeing, hiking or something less fitness-focused, like theme park rides.

For the adventure of a lifetime, consider a Caribbean cruise. It’s not often that you get to explore multiple destinations at once with children in tow. Welcome to the beauty of sailing. Enjoy excursions in the day, entertainment at night and the luxury of not being responsible for directions.

Tips for a Stress-Free Trip

Organisation is essential. Remember that a child’s passport is only valid for five years (check that everyone has valid documents). Always book transfers when booking flights (nobody likes navigating public transport with tired and hungry children after a long flight). Similarly, buy travel insurance immediately after finalising flights and/or accommodation because you will be covered straight away for pre-departure cancellations, not just accidents on the trip.

The best holidays are those perfectly suited to your family so take these ideas for inspiration and create the perfect trip tailored to your interests.
