| There is much more to Ibiza than it's night life |
Collaborative post.
Ibiza. The name conjures images of famous DJs, pulsating beats and long nights partying. And while a reputation for brilliant clubbing is well deserved, the natural beauty of the island shouldn’t be overlooked. Step away from Ibiza Town or San Antonio and Ibiza is the perfect getaway location for a tranquil retreat where you can explore its history and vibrant culture beyond the dance floor.
Here are 10 unforgettable things to do in Ibiza that don't involve stepping into a single club:
1. Explore Dalt Vila: Ibiza's Historic Heart
Step back in time by wandering through the ancient, fortified walls of Dalt Vila, Ibiza's UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town .
Its cobbled streets, historic buildings and hidden courtyards offer a glimpse into the island's past. Be prepared for steep climbs as you explore, but the view from the square in front of the cathedral is worth it for breathtaking panoramic views of the town and the Mediterranean Sea.
2. Relax with your family at the beach
Whatever your preference, Ibiza’s diverse coastline offers a beach to charm every visitor. While iconic spots like the hugely popular Playa d’en Bossa and the stunning Cala Bassa rightly draw the crowds with their beauty and vibrant atmosphere, the island holds calmer treasures. If you are seeking a truly relaxed, family-friendly vibe, consider the soft sands of Cala Llonga or the peaceful Es Figueral, where low tide reveals fascinating rock pools perfect for exploration. For ultimate convenience in reaching these serene destinations, choosing to stay nearby is key. The Santa Eulalia Ibiza apartments are ideally situated, placing you within a short 15-minute drive of these perfect family beaches and allowing you to easily explore the tranquil Eastern coast.
3. Wander Through Hippy Markets
Embrace Ibiza's bohemian roots by visiting its famous hippy markets. The largest and most well known is Las Dalias, held every Saturday in San Carlos . You'll find handmade crafts, jewellery, unique clothing and great food.
Another lovely, but smaller market is Punta ArabÃ, held on Wednesdays (April to October). The markets are a fantastic way to find unique souvenirs and soak up the island's laid-back vibe.
4. Kayak or Paddleboard the Coastline
Get out on the crystal clear turquoise water for a bit of adventure. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the rugged coastline, discovering hidden caves and secluded coves that are inaccessible by foot (although be mindful of private land). It is a brilliant way to enjoy the tranquil side of the Mediterranean and get some exercise at the same time.
5. Visit the Salinas Nature Park
The Ses Salines Natural Park is a stunning area that includes the famous salt flats, beaches and protected woodlands. It’s an important habitat for migratory birds, especially during the spring and autumn months. You might even be lucky enough to see the hundreds of greater flamingoes in the lagoons of Sal Rossa between late August and early October.
6. Go Hiking or Cycling Inland
Away from the coast, Ibiza offers rolling hills, pine forests and interesting villages. There are numerous well marked trails perfect for self guided hiking or mountain biking. Alternatively you can enjoy an organised hike to explore the countryside and take in the island’s rural atmosphere without the worry of losing your way.
7. Try Authentic Ibizan Cuisine
As a Spanish island you can expect long leisurely lunches in a traditional restaurant from around 1pm to 3pm and dinner from 8pm until late. This means you can enjoy the island’s fantastic food scene without missing out on time exploring. Sample local specialties like Bullit de Peix, a fish stew with potatoes, or Arroz de Matanzas, a rice dish with pork and spices..
8. Take a Day Trip to Formentera
Just half an hour ferry ride away, the smaller island of Formentera offers an instant dose of relaxation. Whether it’s the spiritual lay lines believed to cross the island, the lack of cars or the beautiful beaches there is something special about Formentera. This island was once home to Bob Dylan and inspired Joni Mitchell’s song writing. It's perfect to explore for a day trip; consider hiring a scooter or bike to explore its untouched white sands and unbelievably clear water.
9. Watch Sunset at Cala Comte
Ibiza is legendary for its sunsets, and the beach at Cala Conta (Cala Comte) is probably the most popular place to witness this daily spectacle. Head there late in the afternoon, grab a spot on the rocks or the sand, and watch as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in incredible colours. If you want to avoid the crowds there are also boat tours offering a sunset cruise.
10. Discover the Mystical Rock of Es VedrÃ
Standing dramatically off the southwest coast, the uninhabited rock island of Es Vedrà is steeped in myths and legends. The popular viewing area has been closed due to misuse, but you can still view the rock from the Cala d’Hort beach, a nearby restaurant or an organised hike or boat tour. Many visitors feel a strange energy radiating from the area. Whether you believe the stories or not, the views of this imposing limestone giant rising from the sea are spectacular.
