Review - Mulligans Romford (Crazy Golf, Electro Darts, Interactive Cricket and More)

Mulligans has two branches in Essex; Basildon and Romford. The Romford branch was previously Bunkers in The Brewery Shopping Centre and we were invited to check out the offering at their launch party in January 2026.

Spread over two floors, Mulligans Romford has the feel of a large bar. And it does in fact have two bars which offer a range of soft and alcoholic drinks including a great range of cocktails and mocktails, but while Mulligans is adult only (18+) after 8.45 in the evening it is a brilliant place to head to with family during the day. Especially if you are looking for somewhere to entertain the more challenging tweens and teens. So what’s on offer?

Activities at Mulligans Romford

Crazy Golf

On the second floor there are 2 12 hole courses. With a good mix of challenges on each course it’s the style and Instagramable nature of many of the holes that is the biggest highlight. We checked out both courses and found them both fun.

You collect your clubs, ball and score card from the upstairs bar before your game. The last hole on each course has a cage to collect your ball and there are racks to return your clubs.

Electro Darts

At first glance you could be mistaken for thinking the 4 dartboards are of the type hanging on pub walls for decades, but these electro dart boards are linked up to a computer and display information on a TV screen above the boards. As well as sharing whose turn it is and keeping score, this also allows the option of playing various different types of games ie depending on the game it’s not so much about getting the highest score possible, but aiming for particular areas. After each round the screen gives some sort of judgement and shows an image. It also takes various photos and videos throughout which you can download and share.

Sixes Party Cricket

Whether you are experienced or this is the first time you have picked up a bat, the Sixes cricket is a lot of fun. They have two cages available to book for groups of up to 6. Once you head inside and choose your preferred cricket bat (ranging from plastic child size to adult size wooden bats) a ball is fired at you from the wall at the front. The large screen at the font of the cage provides feedback information and a screen outside provides an overview of how everyone is performing. The balls are softer than a normal cricket ball making the game child friendly, but with different game option available you can make it challenging enough for experienced players too.  Due to the popularity of this activity we didn’t get to try it out on our visit, but the friends we watched had a lot of fun. While there are a few venues in London offering Sixes cricket, there is not currently any where else in Essex.

Electro Shuffleboard

On the ground floor there are a couple (I think) of shuffleboard tables. We have played shuffleboard as a family before and there was a fair amount of cheating. We found it enjoyable but the children got bored fairly quickly. Unfortunately we didn’t get the time to try out Electro-Shuffle at Mulligans as this version has automatic scoring and a number of AR games you play using the screen behind. This seems like a great take on an old classic, far more likely to keep everyone entertained for an hours booking.

Ping Pong

No automatic scoring, no AR games, not even any screens, other than the one on the wall next to it playing live sports. Just good old classic table tennis. Bookable by the hour for up to 6 people.

Pool Tables

There are a number of pool tables on the ground floor which seem to be a combination of prebookable tables (you can book an hour for up to 6 people) and pay per play tables near the arcade area.

Arcade Area

At the rear of the ground floor of Mulligans Romford there is an arcade area. I believe this is smaller that at the Basildon branch, but there are a couple of air hockey tables and ball games as well as a few computer games including Pac-man.

Visiting Mulligans with Children

One of the things I like about Mulligans is that most activities (with the exception of Crazy Golf) are booked by time eg an hour for up to 6 people.  As a family of 5 booking activities per person often gets expensive so this is a big win for us.

Prices do vary a lot depending on the time and day, so if you can visit at off peak times you can make considerable savings.

There are plenty of seating areas around Mulligans so you can enjoy a drink and food before or after any bookings, although they also have places to put your drinks next to all the games. They serve a mixture of food items including fries, nachos and pizza. We were underwhelmed by the fries we ordered, but some of the meals offer customers ordered looked more appetising.

Romford has an impressive range of food places. In The Brewery area alone you can choose from Taco Bell, Cosmo (a world kitchen buffet), Five Guys, Frank & Bennies, Greggs, Kaspas, Mcdonalds, Nando’s, Pizza Express, Toby Carvery, Wagamama, Zizzi and food trucks. So with the tough competition of food options you might want to plan a meal elsewhere and focus on the drinks while at Mulligans (I recommend the cocktails and mocktails).

Getting to Mulligans Romford

You can find Mulligans at Unit 6a, The Brewery Shopping Centre, Waterloo Road, Romford, RM1 1AU. This is in the outside area of The Brewery next to Smyths.

Parking for Mulligans Romford

The Brewery has 2 large car parks, one outside and a multi-story. The outside car park is right outside Mulligans Romford, but the multi-storey parking is slightly cheaper. Both Brewery car parks get very busy at peak times, but there are plenty of other car parks in Romford if they happened to be full. It's worth noting you can also get 2 hours free parking at The Brewery if you spend over £10 in Sainsburys, but it's also free parking in the multi-storey on Sundays.

There are also great transport links including Romford station which is 5 minutes walk away with direct trains both into London and Essex.
