With the school holidays stretching ahead I am constantly on the look out for ideas to keep my children entertained without spending lots of money. It’s a great idea to have a box of activities that you can pick something from when children complain they are bored or if they deserve a treat. The items don’t need to be big or expensive, just little activities that will engage them long enough to get their imagination and minds going again. When I checked out PoundToy after they asked me to collaborate I realised the website is perfect for buying great value items to entertain children.
PoundToy gave me a voucher so I could choose some bits from the site and they are also kindly providing a £25 voucher so I can run a giveaway. Keep reading to find out how I found buying from PoundToy, what I bought and to enter my giveaway.
Buying Toys from the PoundToy Website
When I first looked at the site I was a little overwhelmed with the choice so I went through just adding everything I liked the look of to the cart. They handily categorise the toys by age or type if you know what sort of thing you are interested in. I made sure that I got a few treats for both of my daughters, plenty of activities that they could both do over the summer (inside, outside and when travelling) as well as a toy for Baby Boy.
After having a good browse of the site I went to my shopping cart and made a few adjustments before checking out. It was all straight forward to do. I managed to buy 35 items for £50! The items ranged in cost from 14p to £7 and included well know brands such as: Crayola, Grafix and Little Tikes.
I ordered everything Tuesday evening and my big box of goodies arrived Friday. I went through item by item to check everything was there, which they were plus a bonus lollipop! Everything was in good condition too except for the marbles which had escaped their packaging.
My buying experience was great with my only criticism of the site being that the photos and descriptions are limited so it wasn’t always obvious exactly what something was. There were a few items I Googled to find other websites selling them with more info before making a decision, although interestingly PoundToy always came out competitively on price. When I received the delivery there were a few things I hadn’t Googled that weren’t quite as I was expecting, but isn’t that sometimes the way with online shopping? There was only one item I was disappointed with and it was my fault because I had something else in my head when ordering it. The PoundToy descriptions are all accurate, just not always detailed.
What I Bought from PoundToy
Crafts and Activities for Rainy Days
There was a lot of choice for activities to keep my daughters entertained. I bought a few different packets of kinetic style sand and a few packets of Scratch Magic which have black sheets where you scrape away to show coloured designs underneath, these are great for free play and I loved them as a child. I got a magnetic letters set and some number play dough cutters to do activities with my youngest daughter who is starting to recognise numbers and letters. The cutters should work well with the sand as well as playdoh that we already have.
I bought 2 kits to make bouncy balls, a make your own dream catcher kit and a crystal growing kit for my eldest who has an interest in science and the ability to do more complicated crafts. Finally I bought a couple of Doc McStuffins modelling sets, bath crayons and marbles that the girls can play with together.
Entertainment for Journeys
This summer we will be going on a few car journeys as well as travelling by aeroplane and train. I like to have small and light things which will keep the girls entertained while not making much noise or mess. I am a big fan of Crayola Mess Free Colouring and we have a few different sets, they come with pens which only work on the included colouring paper so you wont suddenly discover the seat or clothes have been decorated. I thought the dot to dot book would be good for my eldest, but the patterns are too simple and it will be better suited to my youngest daughter although maybe not until next year. The Num Nom set has colouring in to keep my eldest busy and a notepad for her to draw or write in. The Doc McStuffins activity pack should be good for the girls to do together, especially when playing their favourite game of schools. We have a small magnetic drawing board already and it's used a lot so I thought it would be good to get another one, it's great for Little to practice her letters, numbers and shapes.Toys for the garden
Bubbles are really popular so I thought the bubble maker with a few different wands would be good to play with in the garden or for taking to the park. The Unicorn ball with keyring was a must buy after M got a similar ball at a fair and her sister was jealous. I just need to find the pump...
And Everything Else
Then there were a few other bits which I thought would be fun. Including a party set, confetti balloons, reward stickers, little pegs, temporary tattoos, a flashing ball, a hair bow, play keys and a press n go fire engine. I also bought some sandwich bags with stickers which were the one item I was disappointed with, but I am sure we will use them even if they weren't quite as expected.
Whether you are looking for bits for party bags, stocking fillers, cheap presents, activity ideas or entertainment for journeys then I recommend checking out PoundToy to see what they have on sale.
