Since Baby Boy turned 6 months old I have been thinking about getting his bedroom ready for him. I don’t know if he will stay there all night at the moment, but I would love for him to have his own space and somewhere for naps and early evenings. I might even get to spend some time alone in my bedroom! The spare room has been used for storage and laundry since we moved in nearly 4 years ago so it is definitely time to decorate.
Decorating a children’s bedroom or nursery normally means coming up with a theme, but I have struggled to choose one for a fast growing baby. At 6 months old Baby Boy isn’t showing a preference for much and it feels a bit forced to choose something like dinosaurs, animals, cars or fairies. I don't want to have to redecorate in a years time, but the one thing I know he loves is people so an obvious place to start is to put family photographs in his room.
One of the reasons I haven’t made much progress with the decorating is I don’t have much time for DIY. I am ok with an electric drill, but hanging picture hooks with a baby around is a challenge; you can’t do it when they are napping and power tools and a moving baby (or even my toddler) is a scary combination. Fortunately there is an easier way.
Easy Photo Tiles For Children's Bedrooms
When I first saw MIXPIX I liked the idea that I could have a few different photographs up in a small area which I know Baby Boy would love to look at, but as I read more the product really appealed to me. The photo tiles are really light which means they can be stuck to the wall. No need to get the drill out! They come with adhesive tape which provides great grip on most wall types and is removable without damaging the wall. They can be rearranged too, but I’ve not tested how many times you can move them before they lose their stickiness. I have moved them a few times while trying to make sure they are straight and they are still fine, I should probably have looked for my spirit level though.
The photo tiles are 20cm square and they are really easy to order. You simply click on “Upload photos” on the MIXPIX page (without even needing to set up an account). It allows you to rotate your image and reposition it, but no other editing. This makes it really simple, but if you want to resize, apply filters or do anything fancy you will need to do so before you upload the photo.
Once you have created all the tiles you want you just click “shopping cart” and check out. You can choose to pay via their secure payment process, Amazon Pay or Paypal (anyone else love payment methods that mean you don’t even need to get up for your wallet?). Delivery is free over £45 (£5 under that) and mine arrived well packaged in less than a week.
MIXPIX are perfect for children’s rooms because with no heavy frames I don’t need to worry any one will get hurt if they some how manage to knock them off the wall. According to their website:
MyPicture also use special latex ink means that your images are completely safe for humans and animals. The solvent-free colours mean that your photo products are suitable for children and people with allergies. And the odour-free ink is perfectly suited to our printing process, so the colours in your photo will be especially rich and brilliant.”
The website also shares their eco credentials:
The electricity for our factory comes from renewable energy sources. All of our machines run on green energy from wind, water and the sun. In addition, we participate in reforestation projects by planting 1,000 trees every year.”
