(AD) If I could start all over again my children’s rooms and toys would look very different to how they do. I would buy less, but make better choices. I would discourage family and friends from buying us vast piles of plastic toys and instead I would point them to smaller, thoughtful shops. Their bedrooms would have shelves of tactile toys made ethically and the decor would make me smile when I walked in the room. 10 years ago it was much harder to source ethical items for children and I wasn’t as well informed as I am now.

I still buy plastic toys, I still buy products from retailers that offer convenience, choice and fast delivery, but I am making more of an effort to use smaller retailers rather than just tap on “that app” on my phone. It is so much more satisfying buying from a family business based in the UK, a business that has strong values and great customer service. There are lots out there, but they can get rather lost behind the mammoth big businesses. It has increasingly started to bother me the power that some large companies have, how they can do what they want and they can dictate all the rules.  

Luna and Cash - Ethical Online Shop for Children's Toys and Decor

When I was contacted by Luna & Cash I visited their website and discovered they are one of those “ooohhh” shops. When I’m in the physical version of these types of shops I walk around stroking everything and want to buy it all, online I want to add it all to my basket. I want to redecorate the children’s rooms and buy gifts for everyone I know. It is all beautiful.

Luna & Cash is a family business offering ethical, zero-waste, eco-friendly and vegan products. They sell brands I am familiar with (like Plan toys, Lanka Kade and Kleen Kanteen) as well as incredibly beautiful ones which are new to me like Fabelab and Picca LouLou. I love that the collection of toys and decor to buy is curated from such wonderful items. Does it sound like I’m gushing? You know how some people browse clothes shops? Well shops like Luna & Cash are the eye candy I love to browse online. This is the sort of shop I would like to have received a gift voucher from as a new mum and it’s where I will be heading next time I need a baby gift.

Plan Toys Hair Dresser Set

My children love to play hairdressers with each other as well as their toys. The lovely wooden hairdresser play set by Plan Toys contains: a waist bag, scissors, comb, razor, hairdryer and hair straighteners. They are the perfect size for little hands and I love the colours. Plan Toys are traditional style toys, but they keep up with the modern world as evidenced by the hair straighteners in this set and other products like their DJ mixer board or toy vloggers set with a ring light, microphone and camera. The toys are suitable for age 3 years and up due to some small parts (if the pieces came apart) but I allowed my 2 year old to get involved while being observed. The belt on the waist bag was too short to close on the velcro around my 5 year old, but it stayed on ok anyway.

Picca LouLou Nursery Decor

The gorgeous handmade star cushions from Picca LouLou perfectly represent the beautiful decor that Luna & Cash sell. One is grey corduroy and the other slightly smaller one is a dusky pink cotton, both have small gold spots all over and grey stitching. They work beautiful as decoration or play items. The Picca LouLou mobiles with clouds and pom poms or moon and sparkly stars are probably my other favourite items on the website.
