AD You know when you see a beauty product being shouted about all over the internet? How do you know if it’s the real deal or just an excellent PR campaign? Having seen the little glass bottles on my social media I was excited to get my hands on the latest must have serums from Depology: Depology Peptide Complex10% Serum formulated with Argireline™️ peptide and Depology Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum. These serums are worth checking out if you are in your thirties onwards as they are designed to target wrinkles by encouraging collagen production. As we get older our bodies produce less collagen which can make our skin thinner, less elastic and generally look older.

There are lots of ways we can try to prevent, combat and even reverse the signs of ageing skin including eating a high protein diet, trying a collagen supplement and using specialist serums. If our body has plenty of the amino acids and peptides that make collagen available it should be able to maximise collagen growth. As collagen production declines with age it can be helpful if we can encourage more collagen production too.
First Impressions of Depology's Peptide Complex10% Serum formulated with Argireline™️ Peptide and Depology Matrixyl® 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum.
Obviously the most important part of a beauty product is how well it works, but appearances are important too. I love products which look good quality and well made. It’s psychological, but if there is attention to detail about the packaging then it’s easier to believe care has been taken over the product too. The Depology serums I received did not disappoint.
Each serum comes in a small box with sleek and sophisticated branding on. The boxes are lined with additional cardboard to make them sturdy and to protect the glass bottles inside. The 30ml serum bottles are made from a good chunky glass so you don’t worry they are going to get smashed and like most serums they have a pipette to help you apply just a small amount. Unlike many other serums I have used there is a little plastic feature inside the bottle neck which stops the serum spilling or building up on the outside of the pipette. This is great as it doesn’t drip like some serums I have tried. The end of the glass pipette is chunky too so you don’t need to worry about it breaking. These are simple design features, but ones that make a difference to how much of the product you use and how it feels to apply.
Both serums are a clear thin gel like consistency and they don’t have a strong smell. When applied to my freshly cleansed face my skin drinks them in and they leave my skin feeling soft and moisturised.
After a few days my skin started feeling softer like I had been exfoliating. My skin also feels more hydrated and moisturised, but without the greasy feeling I get from intensive moisturisers (which then give me spots). I will give a further update after I have been using the serums for a month as this tends to be the time period I start to see real differences in my skin.

How Do You Use the Depology Matrixyl® 3000 and Peptide Complex 10% serums?
The Matrixyl® 3000 and Peptide Complex 10% serums are designed so they can be used together. You can apply one, let it absorb in and apply the other a minute or so later. Make sure you cleanse and tone your face first as this will give the serums the best chance of being absorbed into your skin. I simply squeeze a few droplets directly from the pipette onto my forehead, cheeks and chin before massaging it in gently. You should then follow up with a moisturiser (including SPF in the mornings).
Which Serum Should You Apply First?
It shouldn’t make a difference to the long term improvements which order you apply serums if they are allowed to absorb in between applications, however Depology suggest applying Peptide Complex 10% first followed by Matrixyl® 3000. I have tried both ways round and found my face feels more moisturised if I use Matrixyl® 3000 second as advised.
If you want to make the products last longer and have more of an impact make sure you focus on areas where your wrinkles are more of a concern. Use the serums morning and evening for best results, however if you are using other intensive products you might want to use them at different times of day. On their website Depology have a Regimen Guide with how to use their complementary products together.

How Do They Work?
The Depology serums contain Argireline™️ and Matrixyl® 3000 as their key ingredients. These ingredients are really popular in skincare at the moment because of the impact they have targeting wrinkles. The ingredients aren’t unique to Depology and other brands sell products including them, however the Depology serums have a unique mix of ingredients which they have combined to have maximum impact.
About Peptide Complex 10% Wrinkle Defense Serum
The Peptide Complex Anti-Wrinkle Serum is designed to defend against wrinkles and reduce fine lines. The key ingredient is the Argireline™️ peptide which is a trade marked name for peptide acetyl hexapeptide-3. With regular use this peptide helps to minimise muscle movement and the associated wrinkles, a similar concept to how the Botulinum toxin works, but without the need of an injection (or a toxin). This means there are't any of the side effects or risks that people worry about with injectables. Argireline™️ is one of the first topical (eg applied to the surface of the skin) beauty product ingredients which studies have found has some effect on muscle contraction. This can particular make a difference in stopping wrinkles developing or getting worse because many wrinkles are caused in areas where muscles are regularly used. You’ve heard the expression frown lines and laughter lines etc because these are areas on our face where the muscles get used repeatedly and then develop wrinkles from frequent use. Helping the muscles in these areas stay relaxed can prevent such deep wrinkles forming, but without the level of muscle paralysis from an injectable. This allows you to reduce wrinkles while still having normal looking facial movements. The additional ingredients in the Depology Argireline™️ peptide serum help to boost moisture in the skin which also makes fine lines less visible (and your skin to feel great).
You can also get wrinkle defence eye cream containing the Argireline™️ peptide.

About Matrixyl® 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum
Depology claim the Matrixyl® 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum helps to firm the skin and dramatically reduce fine lines and wrinkles, “These peptides actively stimulate the synthesis of vital skin components such as collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Matrixyl® in formulations has been scientifically demonstrated to yield anti-aging effects.”
The peptides (short strings of Amino Acids) in Matrixyl® 3000 serum encourage skin to increase collagen product. The amount of collagen we produce declines as we get older so this can help counteract and even reverse the signs of aging.
Depology advise that the serum should be used daily for 2 weeks before you can expect to see results, but I generally give products at least a month to see any real changes. Matrixyl® 3000 is used in skincare for its anti-ageing properties because it stimulates collagen production. The Depology Matrixyl® 3000 serum also contains hyaluronic acid which is a great product for hydrating your skin.
Depology’s Matrixyl® 3000 range has a cream and night mask as well as the serum. It works best with the Depology micro-dart patches, but it is effective used on its own.
