Guide To Buying School Shoes Online

(AD - Gifted) Each year my mind starts to think about ‘back to school’ before the schools have even broken up. I like to be organised and the idea of leaving uniform shopping until the beginning of September would give me nightmares. I often buy uniform in May or June after checking what needs replacing, buying early means shops often have offers on and plenty of choice, but you don’t want to get new school shoes too early.

Guide To Buying School Shoes Online

When is the best time to buy new school shoes?

Getting school shoes early in the summer often means more choice due to better stock levels. You also have less crowds if you want to buy instore and the confidence that comes with knowing you are sorted, but you run the risk of feet growing while running around free in the sun. Shoezone recommend buying school shoes in the last couple of weeks of the school holidays to avoid problems from a growth spurt.

If you want great value shoes at your convenience then it’s worth checking out shoezone. With over 300 stores around the country there is probably a store near you, but even if there isn’t it is easy to order your school shoes online.

This year's range starts at just £9.99 for boys school shoes and they stock well known brands like Hush Puppies and Kickers, often at less than RRP.

Choosing school shoes online

It was easy to browse the shoezone website with my children and choose the shoes they wanted. We chose two styles of Hush Puppies: Jezza Kids Black Leather Shoe for my youngest and Baltimore Kids Black Leather Shoe for my middle one. We chose these styles because the velcro fastening makes them easy to get on and off, the soles have great grip so you don’t need to worry about them skidding around a wet playground and they have reinforcements in those places that school shoes can get wornout first. They also have Micro-Fresh® Technology which claims to reduces odour, but we’ll have to see how well that science can hold up to my daughter's feet!

One of the things I like about getting school shoes online is that my daughter wants comfortable shoes that are great for running around and without any floral motifs or hearts. This inevitably means she prefers to chose from the boys section where there is a lot more choice, but she also has to experience the shop assistants referring to her as a boy (two years in a row, thanks for that Clarks). The shoes my daughter chose from shoezone are described as “kids” rather than boys so she could check them out without feeling different.

Why I like buying school shoes online

It can be quite overwhelming for children to go into a shoe shop in the summer holidays, especially if they are worried about going back to school. There can be unusual smells, lots of people and lots of waiting around. There have been times that we have bought shoes not because my children found them the most comfortable, but because they will say yes to anything to get out of there, only sharing the truth a week into the new term.

In contrast when buying online you can browse the options at a time they are feeling relaxed and try them on at home where they feel comfortable so they are more likely to give honest feedback. Buying online doesn’t mean you have to wait days for your shoes though, shoezone offer free next day delivery on all purchases (no minimum spend).

What if the shoes don’t fit?

You can use shoezone’s handy measurement guide to work out the best size from home with just paper, a pencil and a ruler, but if for any reason the delivered shoes aren’t comfortable you can return shoes that are unworn and in original condition for free to any of their stores. Better still you can get a refund or exchange for up to 12 months from purchase so this means if you want to buy new school shoes a month before school goes back you are covered for any growth spurts (just make sure that when you try them on it’s on carpet and they aren’t worn during the holidays). If you don’t have a store at a convenient location you can also return them by post, but there is a £2.50 charge for this.

So if you want a less hassle approach to getting school shoes this summer then consider buying them online.
