Europe has many stunning destinations to discover |
Santorini, Greece
Santorini consistently ranks as a top holiday destination and for good reason. The island's iconic whitewashed buildings, clifftop views and deep blue waters make it a dream location for those seeking a mix of relaxation and beauty.
Popular with both honeymooners and solo travellers, Santorini’s breathtaking sunsets over the caldera are a highlight. Visitors can enjoy fine dining, indulge in local wines from vineyards producing some of Greece’s best wines or explore the ancient archaeological sites.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik has become a must visit destination thanks to its blend of medieval architecture and stunning Adriatic views. The UNESCO listed Old Town presents an immersive historical experience with its well preserved city walls.
Besides sightseeing, Dubrovnik is known for its lively nightlife, beautiful beaches and delicious Mediterranean cuisine. The city is a gateway to numerous islands off the Croatian coast, making it an ideal base for island hopping or day cruises. Holidaymakers continue to flock to Dubrovnik, especially in the summer, as the city provides both relaxation and culture in a picturesque setting.
Tenerife, Canary Islands
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and remains a favourite for British tourists, especially for those seeking year-round sunshine. With an idyllic climate, Tenerife holidays are perfect for families and adventure-seekers alike.
The island offers a variety of activities, from exploring the dramatic volcanic landscapes of Teide National Park to lounging on the sandy beaches of Costa Adeje. For water sports enthusiasts the warm Atlantic waters are ideal for surfing, windsurfing and diving.
Tenerife is also known for its vibrant nightlife in resorts like Playa de las Américas, but if you prefer somewhere a little more sedate there is plenty more to discover on this island with it's rich cultural offerings, including traditional festivals and historic sites. I found the island easy to explore thanks to the great bus network.
Amalfi Coast, Italy
The Amalfi Coast is the epitome of Italian beauty, offering dramatic cliffs, pastel-coloured villages and clear blue seas. Stretching 50km from Punta Campanella to Vietri sul Mare, this UNESCO World Heritage site is perfect if you’re looking for a luxurious escape.
The towns of Positano and Amalfi are famed for their winding streets and stunning views, while Ravello boasts artistic and cultural treasures.
The Amalfi Coast is also a food lover’s paradise with fresh seafood, handmade pasta and local lemon based delicacies. It’s a destination that offers both tranquillity and adventure, whether you’re hiking the Path of the Gods or lounging by the sea. It is definitely top of the places I most want to visit.
Whether you’re after a cultural escape or beachside retreat, Europe’s combination of tradition, natural beauty, and modern amenities makes it a timeless choice for your next getaway.
