How To Choose A Halloween Costume To Suit Your Glasses

If I want to wear fancy dress as a glasses wearer it often feels like I need to leave my glasses off to avoid ruining the costume. I generally don’t find contacts comfortable and while walking around blind as a bat might be an interesting take on a Halloween costume it’s hardly ideal. If you are looking for fancy dress ideas for glasses wearers this Halloween then here are some ideas whatever your glasses type. And remember don’t just think about your normal glasses, your prescription sunglasses might be a perfect fit for an outfit too. Or you could just choose and amazing gothic dress and wear contact lenses to complete the look?

Round frames

If you have round glasses it is probably the easiest style to find a character to dress up as. There are a huge range of animated characters like: Penfold (Danger Mouse), Meg Griffin (Family Guy), Doc (Snow White), a minion (Despicable Me), Sadness (Inside Out) or Edna (The Incredibles). There are also many film characters like the popular Harry Potter, to famous people throughout history: John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne, Jackie O or even Sigmund Freud. Or maybe you could dress as the, not so easy to spot, Where’s Wally?

Square frames

Square Frames are also pretty popular in film and TV. For females Velma (Scooby Doo) is a fun option for Halloween, or how about Sam Sparks (Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs) or Jess in New Girl. For men there is: Chuckie from Rugrats (although that might be going back a bit) or Spongebob Squarepants. If your sunglasses are square consider: Tony Stark in the Avengers or the stylish Karl Lagerfield.

Aviator frames

There are some styles of glasses which yell famous characters without needing much help. I’m talking aviator frames for Maverick (Top Gun), although they work for many 70’s style outfits too.

Wayfarer style frames

Put on wayfarer sunglasses, a black suit, white shirt and tie and you can take your pick of film characters like The Men In Black or The Blues Brothers. If you are a bit of an exhibitionist maybe wear just your underwear and go as Tom Cruise in Risky Business.

Cat eye frames

Retro cat eye shape glasses provide lots of fun fancy dress outfits for women. The shape made famous by Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany means you can dress as the style icon Audrey Hepburn or even Marilyn Monroe. If you are feeling a bit braver how about Dita Von Teese or Dame Edna Everage (you can always accentuate your frames further by temporarily adding some decor)?

Frames Not One of The Above Styles?

If you aren’t sure which style your glasses fit into you could always go as incognito mode Superman or Wonder Woman. These superheroes have been in so many films and comic versions that Clark Kent and Diana Price can get away with many styles. Just have a flash of their trademark suits visible under whatever you fancy wearing. Elton John (or Lady Gaga as a female equivalent) is another option having worn pretty much every glasses style over the years, just like Dame Edna you could  always add a bit of temporary bling to the frames (just don’t get anything on the lenses).

On the other hand if you fancy buying some new affordable frames to complement your Halloween outfit, SmartBuyGlasses carry a wide range of shapes suitable for all characters.
