Turning Your Garden Into A More Communal Space

Collaborative post by another author. A garden is a fantastic place to spend time with your children at home, and they are often great for their development too. Giving children a safe place to play, spend time in nature, and enjoy a range of garden installations that you invest in can be a real luxury. For instance, something as simple as a garden climbing frame or trampoline can help your children bond and burn energy in the best way.

Turning your garden into a nice communal space is a fantastic means of spending more time with your family. It can also serve as a fun distraction from other activities you would rather limit, such as having your children spend too much time in front of a screen playing video games or worse, watching other children play video games on YouTube.

But your garden can also function as a great place to invite friends, and to engage in your own hobbies. The best part is that you don’t need an overwhelming amount of space to fill all these functions, just a smart approach to design and care. In this post, we’ll discuss how to achieve that:

Consider Garden Furniture & Shelters

A beautiful shelter, such as a gorgeous wooden gazebo, can provide a fantastic staging area for a range of purposes, be that in constructing a garden bar, a place to eat in the summer, or perhaps a beautiful area to stage a party. What matters here is being able to provide a kind of grounding area for your socialisation where everyone feels comfortable and can take a break from the direct sunlight where appropriate. Over time, this can feel thoroughly rewarding and will encourage you to spend more time in your green space.

Staging Areas

A nice staging area outside of a shelter can work wonders for your communal garden space, too. This is especially important when it comes to cooking outside, because having an overhead shelter can sometimes be a poor way to ventilate smoke and might cause a fire risk, especially if you’re grilling meats.

A nice staging area with a central cooking platform such as a chiminea or expensive grill can be perfect for this, but of course, this will all depend on your tastes and intentions. For some, simply a beautiful circular seating arrangement around a potential contained campfire fire pit is enough.

Visual Elements

If you wish to spend more time in your garden, it’s important to make it look nice and to work as a place you’d like to occupy. This can often be aided by keeping the grass trimmed, making sure garden furniture is varnished and in good condition, cleaning the pool if you’re lucky enough to have one, and storing gardening equipment in the garden shed. Little efforts, such as hosing down the grime on your greenhouse, and making sure your fences and gates are painted anew can be a beautiful means of giving this area a facelift. It might just be long overdue.

With this advice, you’re certain to turn your garden into a more communal space going forward.
