The Tale Of A White T-Shirt and the #ACEforSchool Challenge

When my eldest was in her first year of school I was sitting outside a classroom waiting to speak to her teacher. One of the wall displays was a white t-shirt pinned up and covered in various stains. It was accompanied by a message encouraging parents not to mind that their child came home with dirty clothes but to be glad they were having a good time.  It made me laugh because I might not get much out of my daughter if I asked what she had done at school that day, but I can make some guess from the state of her clothes.

We are lucky that our school aren’t too fussy about uniform and while you can buy it with the school logo on, most of it can just be bought generically from the supermarkets. The white t-shirts in particular I take the approach of buying the cheapest I can find and not worrying about what state they get in. I still want them to last longer than one wear though so it is helpful to have products on hand that allow me to easily and quickly remove marks.

In a typical school day my daughter will run around the playground and field (so that might be some mud and grass stains), get distracted while writing out her phonics or doing maths (fortunately no pen license yet so that’s just pencil marks), maybe do some art (add some paint or felt tips on to those clothes) then there is whatever she eats and drinks during the day (possibly ketchup, tomato sauce, orange juice, gravy, custard, a bit of grease plus the fruit from morning break or after school club).

At home clothes are a challenge too because neither of my daughters are the neatest eaters and they are more interested in playing than their clothes. They love beautiful dresses, but they definitely don’t behave beautifully and it has made them cry before when I have said something needs to be thrown away because I can’t get the marks out.

ACE for colours and ACE stain remover spray help to prevent those tears of sadness from my children and the tears of frustration from me as I pull out clothes from the washing machine with barely faded marks.

I thought I would test out how well ACE works and throw a number of stains at an old school t-shirt. I made marks with mud, grass, ketchup, pencil, biro, felt tip and strawberries before spraying with the ACE stain remover spray and leaving for 10 minutes. I then put it in the wash with ACE for colours and our normal washing liquid. When the shirt came out of the wash it was looking pretty impressive, there is a slightly discoloured mark where the grass stain was, but I reckon it would come out with another wash.

ACE for colours has been formulated to remove stains, but be gentle on the clothes so it is suitable for use on silk, wool and even cashmere! You put it into the wash with your normal detergent and it works it’s magic to remove stains from all the clothes. It even helps to prevent colours bleeding or transferring to other fabrics in the wash which is often a worry of mine. I have had a wash full of white school shirts come out rather grey before so it’s great to not have to worry about that with ACE. They also have a special ACE for whites, but I tend to put all the school clothes and work shirts in one load so I need it to be great for all colours.

ACE Stain Remover spray is formulated for spraying directly on those larger marks that you think will need extra care. It is recommended you spray it on straight away (like when the children drop bolognese sauce down their front), but it also works effectively hours later if you discover the mess on their clothes when they return home. I leave for about 5-10 minutes then put it in the wash as normal. The multi-purpose spray doesn’t just work on clothes though and it can be used around the home for general cleaning (avoid use on copper, brass, cast iron, untreated wood and use diluted on marble).
